Do I need a bigger size pouch to use in the winter?
Do I need a bigger size pouch to use in the winter?
For winter use, most people wear the sling and the baby under the coat. You could get a larger sling size to wear over your and the baby’s coat, but how much bigger would be hard for me to determine, since I don’t know how big and bulky your coats are. I personally find it uncomfortable to wear a sling that is too big, and I find it restrictive to wear a sling over a coat. Babies are generally more content when worn next to the mother’s body, and the mother’s body heat keeps the baby warm, which eliminates the need for a very heavy coat for the baby. Here are a couple of pics with my daughter, she was about 10 months old:
She has a hooded poncho on, and my coat is zipped around us.
She has the same hooded poncho on, and I have a wrap like winter coat over both of us.
There are coats and vests specifically made for babywearing, that have a head hole for the baby, or zip out panels to make room for the baby. Any oversized coat will work though.
update..
Padded “Sylvia” and “Ellen” are being cut right now and we will give them to Carol today. Hopefully she will be able to finish most of them by next week, so the current plan is that they will be ready to ship on Thursday, January 3. We will open them up for sale on Monday, Dec 31. Happy New Year!!

We have a BUNCH of half sized padded Katherine slings, I’m not sure what happened. Everyone who could be to blame is blaming someone else
So, if anyone wants a half sized Katherine, you can have a $5 discount. Email me for a coupon code and to confirm that we have the size you want.
We have a few 1/2 sized sand sateen slings as well, I think they are mostly size 24.5. The sand sateen is so luxurious, one of the softest sateens I have felt.

Christmas

We opened Christmas gifts this morning. For the last few years we have pretended Xmas eve is Xmas day, so that we have a day to recuperate before Steve goes back to work! Karin made Katie the most amazing little jacket out of left over “Katherine” fabric. Karin takes home a lot of our fabric scraps that we don’t have a use for. She makes bags, clothing, and … jackets!
New web page
I have been working on this page for a while, it is a pretty useless page to anyone but me, but it’s fun to look at! It is a complete listing of all Slinglings baby slings fabrics– past, present and near future ;) All of our new fabrics don’t have swatch pictures yet, but they will very soon.
What is a Slingling?
I often hear our slings referred to in the singular as “Slingling“, and it always bugs me! From the very beginning, before we ever started our business, the word “slingling” in our house referred to a baby that was carried in a baby sling, any sling. Slingling is what my husband called our daughter when she was in a sling, which was pretty much all the time! SlinglingS (plural) is our brand name, or more correctly, Slinglings Baby Slings. Slinglings (plural with a capital S) is the brand and company, baby slings is what we make, a slingling (singular with a lower case s) is the baby. “Every baby should be a slingling” means that every baby deserves to be worn and carried next to a loving caregiver.

Not too much new happening here!
We have received the first six of our 11 new fabrics, and we are working away on them. We will list the first new baby slings for sale on Wednesday, January 2. Eventually all 11 fabrics will be available both padded and unpadded.
Joanne and Karin are off work until the Wednesday after Christmas. Carol has been busy with family events so she has been sewing less the last few weeks. Both of my kids will be at home for the next 2 weeks so I may not be as available as usual. Saturday at noon is the last day we will be shipping before Christmas.
